Cloud EV
"Run on clouds. From nature to city."
Walk on clouds wherever you go.
Tackle all the terrains without sacrificing what's most important - comfort and support.
On is known for their engineered designs - let's take it one step further with a 3D printed, data driven midsole.

materials innovation | Brands such as New Balance and Adidas have entered the world of data customized midsoles. On Running has the opportunity to enter with a new outlook on generative design as their lines focus on engineered comfort.
precision | Data driven midsoles provide the ability to tackle specific design goals to provide precise and accurate solutions in a mathematical manner.
customization | 3D printed midsoles allow for customization of the location, amount, and type of support in the shoe. The ability to generate countless variations of structures offer endless opportunities.
sustainability | With 3D printing technology, less material usage will result in less material waste without sacrificing structure, support, and durability.
concept ideation
Which structure best provides support and durability while maintaining On branding and form language?
The infill would best perform in a casing as the shoe is meant to be worn nature to city. The casing will protect the structure from rough terrain and prevent obstructions within the infill.
concept research
Primitive Infill | Circular
Using Houdini, multiple mathematical
structures were explored for the midsole.
Simulations were ran to test the structures in terms of compression, stability, and amount of material used.
The primitive infill was deemed most
unstable.
It did not provide enough structure to provide adequate support.
Gyroid Infill | Batwing
The batwing gyroid is another variation
of a gyroid.
With a denser structure, the infill provides more cushion and support than the previous gyroid.
The thicker walls and denser structures will provide more cushion and support for the foot. This will be used in high impact areas.
Gyroid Infill | Basic
The gyroid is known to have exceptional
strength properties at low densities.
Found in butterfly wing membranes, this
structure is efficient in space and low
weight (less filament needed).
This mathematical structure will allow for
lighter cushioning in lower impact areas, reducing the overall weight of the shoes.
